Today, we gathered in solemn remembrance and solidarity during the Holocaust Remembrance event, alongside survivors, families, the Pennsylvania Jewish Coalition, elected leaders, and fellow Pennsylvanians.
At Dallastown Area High School, the name Rubin Sztajer is familiar to all. There, Mrs. Molly Dollmeyer pioneered the Holocaust studies course, driven by the belief that `Students must learn, so the past won’t repeat itself.` This brought Holocaust survivor Rubin Sztajer to the school annually, sharing his firsthand account.
His first hand experiences during World War II epitomize the Holocaust`s horrors. Yet, his story inspires hope and resilience. The bond between Dallastown and Rubin Sztajer led to his honorary degree, symbolizing the restoration of his stolen education. This sparked legislation for Holocaust education statewide.
Today, we honored the six million lives lost and preserved stories of survival, recognizing Jack Kay from York County, as he illuminated the ceremony with candlelight in memory of his mother, a Holocaust survivor.
Together, we ensure that every Pennsylvanian, their children, their children’s children NEVER FORGET.
