HARRISBURG – Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York) released the following statement in response to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s 2026-27 fiscal year budget proposal unveiled today to a joint session of the General Assembly:
“Pennsylvanians may be subject to six more weeks of winter, but taxpayers should not be subject to a budget that spends $6 billion more than revenue collected. This is a recipe for bankruptcy or massive tax hikes — neither of which are desired by the hardworking citizens of southern York County.
“The governor may have his eyes on Pennsylvania Avenue in a city where money is printed, but in Pennsylvania, we need to balance our budget using real tax dollars, not false promises.
“I am hopeful we can find common ground to build on ways to root out waste, fraud, and abuse with some of our biggest state programs, like Medicaid. Even the governor, when he served as Pennsylvania Attorney General, believed there could be $3 billion in fraud. York County citizens deserve a budget that demands results, protects essential programs, and respects the hardworking people who fund it.”
