NEW PODCAST EPISODE: Update from PA Fish and Boat Commission Top Official

Two people fishing on a boat, with text which reads: Talking Boating and Fishing in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Executive Director Tim Schaeffer joins me on my latest episode of “Kristin’s Corner” – a podcast I host to talk about important state and local topics. We discuss the latest on all things boating and fishing, as well as upcoming collaborations with our office.

You can listen to our discussion on Apple, Spotify and YouTube.

Previous topics include our regional energy crisis, eminent domain, and protecting girls’ sports! You can find them here.

PASSED! My Bill Tackles the Housing Crisis

Sen. Phillips-Hill with a quote which reads: Regulatory and bureaucratic delays in constructing a new home ultimately lead to higher costs and greater frustration for future homeowners.

The Senate acted to alleviate Pennsylvania’s growing housing shortage by approving three bills to expand access to housing while preserving local control.

Everyone knows time is money and government moves at a snail’s pace. My bill, Senate Bill 1279, reduces red tape by creating a single point of contact for housing regulatory compliance to improve coordination and efficiency in the permitting process, speeding up the timeline for building permits.

Watch my remarks here.

Senate Bill 1236 reduces regulatory burdens on small-scale home construction projects by reforming the stormwater permitting process.

Senate Bill 1281 empowers local governments to streamline approval processes using uniform housing plans, helping reduce delays and cut unnecessary red tape.

These reforms reduce several of the barriers contributing to Pennsylvania’s housing shortage, helping create more opportunities for homeownership while giving communities the flexibility to encourage growth in a way that reflects local needs and priorities. The bills were sent to the House of Representatives for consideration.

PASSED! Making the Internet Safer for Your Children

To make sure state laws keep pace with emerging online threats, the Senate voted to establish a Task Force on Child Protection in the Digital Age.

Senate Resolution 244 would direct the Joint State Government Commission to convene a task force to review Pennsylvania’s laws, assess new technologies and identify legal gaps in protections for children in the digital environment. The commission will issue a recommendation for action to the General Assembly.

The proposal builds on previous work by the legislature. In 2024, we passed a law to combat AI generated child sexual abuse materials (CSAM). In 2025, we acted to classify deepfakes as digital forgery for more severe punishment.

The Senate also approved bills to strengthen reporting requirements for AI-generated CSAM and to establish commonsense safeguards for AI chatbots accessible by minors. Read more about our efforts to protect children in the digital age here.

Making Pennsylvania Competitive

Sens. Phillips-Hill and Boscola with two others at the Crayola Factory

Last week, the bicameral and bipartisan Competitiveness Caucus traveled to Crayola in Easton to learn from a Pennsylvania-based employer with a global reach.

We discussed ways to improve apprenticeship programs that can help address our state’s growing workforce challenges.

Learn more about the Competitiveness Caucus here. You can view more photos from the caucus event here.

Remembering D-Day

On June 6, 1944, the fate of Europe would be determined by the largest amphibious invasion in history, including 13,000 aircraft and gliders, 23,400 paratroopers, 5,000 ships and landing craft and 160,000 American, British and Canadian troops.

More than 9,000 Allied servicemen were killed or wounded that day in northern France. It is our responsibility as Americans to honor their bravery, tell the stories of their heroism and preserve what they defended so their sacrifices were not in vain.

Izaak Walton League’s Youth Field Day

Children receiving an archery lesson

For many Pennsylvanians, one of their earliest and fondest memories is learning how to take part in our time-honored outdoor traditions, like archery, trap shooting, and fishing.   I had the honor and privilege to play a small part of that memory for children at the annual Youth Field Day, hosted by the Izaak Walton League, Chapter 67.

Thank you to the York Area Sportsmen for Youth and the dozens of volunteers who made this event a major success and a meaningful experience for our next generation!

Check out photos from the event here.

Celebrating Service to Stewartstown Borough

Sen. Phillips-Hill presenting a citation to Ira Walker

I was honored to join Stewartstown Borough Council to recognize four decades of service by Ira Walker.

Ira began serving the borough in June 1986 and over the past 40 years has contributed tremendously to its operations, community development and quality of life for its residents.

Thank you, Ira, for making Stewartstown a better place to live, work and raise a family! You can view photos of Ira’s celebration here.

Familiar Faces in the Capitol

Sen. Phillips-Hill with Brady Beaudoin on the Senate floor

One of the most enjoyable aspects of serving as your senator is being able to share our beautiful Capitol with the citizens of the 28th District! We had many familiar faces in the Capitol this week!

Brady Beaudoin, a senior at York Suburban, shadowed me this week. Brady participated in several meetings, met with many government officials and advocacy groups, and sat in during Senate session. After high school, Brady wants to pursue a college degree in political science or history. Click here to see him be introduced on the Senate floor!

Sen. Phillips-Hill with Father Mark Nelson on the Senate floor

We were blessed to have Father Mark Nelson of the Holy Trinity Charismatic Episcopal Church in Stewartstown open Senate session in prayer. Click here to watch!

Sen. Phillips-Hill with York County Sheriff Keuerleber and Chief Deputy Diehl YMCA

Thank you to York County Sheriff Rich Keuerleber and Chief Deputy Steve Diehl for stopping by our Capitol office this week. The Pennsylvania Sheriffs Association holds their annual Day on the Hill in June, advocating for priorities that support law enforcement officials.

Sen. Phillips-Hill with members of the Hanover Area YMCA

Thank you to Grace Frey of Red Lion and Cami Bisch from the Hanover Area YMCA who stopped by our Harrisburg office to share their perspective on the state budget and discuss ways we can improve collaboration and coordination between state agencies to address childcare shortages across southern York County.

Praying for the Commonwealth

Sen. Phillips-Hill with PA Attorney General Dave Sunday

Members from the state legislature and row offices, including Attorney General Dave Sunday, came together this week to reflect in prayer during the annual Commonwealth Prayer Breakfast. I was encouraged by the message from Josh Enck of Sight & Sound Theatres, who shared his journey from stagehand to creative director at the theater.

Harrisburg Meetings

Sen. Phillips-Hill with members of Bailey Coach

It was an honor to meet with John Bailey and Kristy Fasano of Bailey Coach this week to discuss improving commercial driver’s license standards in Pennsylvania and exploring ways to expand access to workforce development programs.

On the day the Senate approved the bipartisan package of legislation aimed at making homeownership more affordable and attainable, I met with local realtors to talk about challenges in the housing market and how efforts like this can address the housing shortage present across southern York County.

Protecting Yourself During Tick Season

Clip art of a tick on a leaf

Pennsylvania recorded more than 18,700 cases of Lyme disease in 2025 and the Centers for Disease Control estimates the true number may be much higher due to underreporting.

Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses can cause serious long-term health complications, particularly when left untreated. Nearly 55% of ticks tested in Pennsylvania were found to carry at least one tick-borne pathogen and blacklegged ticks have now been identified in all 67 counties.

You can protect yourself by using repellent, avoiding brushy areas and checking your body and pets after outdoor activities. Learn more about protecting yourself from ticks here.

Federal Assistance via U.S. Senator McCormick’s Team at Our District Office

Graphic with U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick for mobile office hours

I am pleased to host members of U.S. Senator Dave McCormick’s team at our district office Thursday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This event is an opportunity for constituents to receive in-person assistance with federal issues, which include Social Security, Medicare, VA, passports, IRS concerns and other federal agencies.

No appointments are needed and walk-ins are welcome!

Senator McCormick’s mobile office hours program is designed to make federal services more accessible for Pennsylvanians, especially for our neighbors in southern York County.

I am happy to partner with his team to bring these federal resources directly to our community.
