Senate Unanimously Approves Bill to Expand Naloxone Access and Support EMS ProvidersI’m proud to share that my legislation to improve emergency response and save lives in the midst of Pennsylvania’s opioid crisis has passed the Senate with unanimous support. Senate Bill 95 allows EMS providers to leave behind naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, at the scene of an overdose. This simple change ensures that caregivers and loved ones have immediate access to a life-saving tool when every second counts. While naloxone is available over the counter, not all forms are accessible. This bill ensures EMS personnel can leave behind any formulation, even those awaiting final FDA approval. First responders in our community have shared heartbreaking stories of returning to the same home hours after an overdose, simply because no one had access to naloxone. This legislation is a direct response to those stories and the critical need to act quickly in rural and underserved areas. In addition to improving overdose response, the bill includes new provisions to increase transparency on prescription drug costs and strengthen pharmacist-patient communication. You can find more information, including my remarks, on this legislation here. Mid-June Budget Break? Let’s Catch Up Over Coffee! While I’m spending a lot of time at the state Capitol in Harrisburg this month for budget season, I’ve got a little break in the action, and I’d love to spend it with you! Join me at Phat Cat next Tuesday, June 17, from 10-11 a.m. for some coffee and conversation. It’s a great chance to catch up, ask questions, or just say hi! Hope to see you at Phat Cat located at 20 N. Main Street in Red Lion next week! Pennsylvania’s Four-Legged Public Servants at the CapitolThe Capitol came to life during this year’s Working Animal Appreciation Day, an annual event recognizing the vital contributions of Pennsylvania’s service animals. Among the stars of the day was York County’s own K9 Sergeant Prince with the York County Sheriff’s Office. It’s always a pleasure to see Sergeant Prince in action and hear about the continued impact he has in keeping our communities safe. I also had the chance to visit with the Pennsylvania State Police mounted patrol and learn more about the important role these horses play in public safety operations across the Commonwealth. From sniffing out danger to crowd control and search-and-rescue missions, these animals and their handlers are true partners in protecting the public. I am incredibly grateful for the dedicated service of all the paws and hooves that help keep Pennsylvania safe every day. You can find more photos from this day here. Honoring the Courage and Service of Pennsylvania’s Women VeteransOn Women Veterans Day, we recognize the strength, sacrifice, and service of the women who have worn our nation’s uniform. Earlier this week, Senator Tracy Pennycuick hosted a special event at the Capitol to honor Pennsylvania’s women Veterans. It was especially meaningful to see Joan Snyder, a Gold Star mom, Veteran, and proud York County resident, join the celebration, along with Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity, a Veteran who continues to serve the Commonwealth. Women Veterans Day, also known as Women Veterans Recognition Day or Women Veterans Appreciation Day, marks the anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act, signed into law by President Harry Truman on June 12, 1948. This landmark legislation allowed women to serve as permanent, regular members of the U.S. Armed Forces, opening doors that had long been closed. To all the women Veterans who have served and continue to lead with strength and resilience, thank you. Your legacy continues to inspire future generations. If you or someone you know is interested in receiving my monthly Veteran email updates, please sign up here. Senate Committee Votes to Expand No-Cost Breast Cancer ScreeningsBuilding on Pennsylvania’s landmark law that provides no-cost breast cancer screenings for high-risk individuals, I was proud of vote in favor of legislation during the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee that would expand diagnostic screening coverage. Senate Bill 88 would make diagnostic screenings free for anyone who finds an abnormality on a supplemental screening. The bill expands the number of supplemental screenings available and ensures no-cost diagnostic imaging for patients. It would ensure coverage for those at average risk of developing breast cancer and expand access to lifesaving early detection tools for many Pennsylvanians. The measure advances to the full Senate for consideration. Fallen Heroes Ride Honors York County’s BravestThe annual Fallen Heroes Ride is a fitting tribute to York County’s finest. Thank you to all the riders who came out to honor the service and sacrifice of First Lt. Daren M. Hidalgo, Sgt. Christopher Wrinkle and Staff Sgt. Tosca, Staff Sgt. Benjamin Hines, and Navy Seaman Gatlin Scott Green, all while raising funds for meaningful causes in their memory. A heartfelt thank you to David and Sally Dadich and their dedicated team of volunteers for making this event possible. You can find more photos from the ride here. Newest Eagle Scout – Noah PohligCongratulations to Noah Pohlig of Troop 238 in Hickory, Maryland, on earning the rank of Eagle Scout! It was a pleasure to present him with an official Senate of Pennsylvania citation to recognize this significant milestone. For his Eagle Scout project, Noah, son of Christopher and Mary Hoffman Pohlig, constructed a pad to hold a shed for the Warrior Lacrosse Program’s equipment. Well done, Noah! Improving Energy Choice and Transparency for PennsylvaniansLast week, I joined my fellow members of the Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee to meet with Shipley Energy to discuss ways to strengthen Pennsylvania’s utility laws. The conversation focused on making it easier for consumers to shop for electricity and natural gas, improving transparency in utility billing, and ensuring stronger protections for customers. We also had the opportunity to tour Shipley’s facility and learn more about its operations. Thank you to the entire Shipley Energy team for hosting us and contributing to this important dialogue. You can view more photos from our visit on Instagram. Reminder: I Want Your Feedback on PA’s Permitting ProcessHelp shape real change! I’m working to make Pennsylvania’s permitting process more transparent, accountable, and efficient and I want to hear from you. Your input is critical as we work to cut red tape and improve how permits are reviewed and tracked across the Commonwealth. Take a moment to share your thoughts in my short survey. Hanover Trolley Trail ExpansionLast week, just in time for National Trails Day, I joined representatives from the York County Rail Trail Authority, local officials, and dedicated volunteers to celebrate the expansion of the Hanover Trolley Trail. This exciting milestone brings us one step closer to connecting more communities through safe, accessible outdoor spaces. You can find more photos from the trail here and more information about the trail here. Happy Father’s Day!On Sunday, we recognize the love, hard work and dedication of the dads and father figures in our lives. We appreciate their leadership that guides our families and shapes our lives. Warm wishes for a peaceful Father’s Day filled with cherished moments. Upcoming PennDOT Maintenance ProjectsMost weeks, PennDOT provides me with its upcoming maintenance schedule.
