In this update:
A Special Thanks to All VeteransThis Veterans Day, we pause to honor the courage, sacrifice, and steadfast service of the men and women who wore the uniform of the United States Armed Forces. Their commitment, whether carried out on distant shores or here at home, protects the freedoms we cherish every day. We are proud to have so many Veterans here in York County and across Pennsylvania whose stories of leadership, resilience, and quiet service strengthen our communities. To each and every Veteran: thank you. Your willingness to step forward in defense of this nation is a debt we cannot fully repay, but we will always strive to honor it. One meaningful way to support our Veterans is through the Pennsylvania Veterans’ Trust Fund, which provides critical assistance to Veterans and their families in times of need helping with housing, financial support, food, training, recovery programs, and more. Find out how you can donate to this fund here. If you are interested in receiving my monthly Veteran updates, please sign up here. All Vets Trip to the U.S. Naval AcademyThis week, I had the honor of attending the send-off ceremony for the annual All Vets Trip to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Veterans from across York County gathered at Memorial Hall East at the York Fairgrounds before departing together for a day of reflection, connection, and appreciation. A special thank-you to Bailey Coach for once again providing transportation and supporting this important tradition. Their continued partnership ensures our Veterans can enjoy this meaningful experience each year. It was also wonderful to see WWII Veteran Quentin Stambaugh, who recently received his long-overdue Purple Heart. Seeing him there was a meaningful reminder of the service and sacrifice that spans generations among our Veterans. To every Veteran who took part and every Veteran across York County thank you for your service. We are proud to stand with you today and every day. ICYMI: Senator for a Day at the CapitolLast month’s Senator for a Day event brought together students from across York County for a hands-on look at the legislative process. Thank you to all the students, teachers, and staff who made the day meaningful and energizing. In case you missed it, you can watch the highlight video here. Senate Acts to Expand Access to Midwife Maternal CareThe Senate approved legislation to strengthen maternal health care in Pennsylvania by expanding access to midwife services. Senate Bill 507 would modernize licensure requirements for certified midwives, improve collaboration between midwives and physicians and update prescription authority – particularly for the treatment of substance use disorders. Midwives provide care for women during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period, as well as newborn care during the first 28 days of life. Many also offer routine reproductive health services, including prenatal care, clinical exams, screenings and patient education. The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Recognizing Eagle Scout Bryce DinisioCongratulations to Bryce Dinisio of Troop 27 in Stewartstown for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor in Scouting. Bryce, the son of Corey Neeper and Jennifer Economas, has already set a strong foundation for his future. Following graduation, he will work as a welder with Kinsley Construction, a skill he used to directly benefit the community through his Eagle service project. For his project, Bryce designed and built a moving archery target for the Hopewell Fish & Game Association. Powered by a variable-speed motor and constructed largely from recycled materials donated by a local salvage yard, the target allows hunters to practice on a moving object, helping to ensure ethical and accurate shots in the field. This project reflects Bryce’s craftsmanship, resourcefulness, and commitment to safety and responsible outdoor sportsmanship. I was honored to present Bryce with a Senate citation recognizing his achievement and contributions to our community. Well, done Bryce! Benjamin Momberger Earns the Rank of Eagle ScoutCongratulations to Benjamin Momberger of Troop 27 in Stewartstown on earning the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout. Benjamin is the son of Paul and Kerri Momberger and is currently studying engineering at Penn State York, where he is continuing to build on the skills and leadership qualities he demonstrated throughout Scouting. For his Eagle Scout community service project, Benjamin led an important public safety effort in the Borough of Stewartstown. He inspected and refurbished 71 fire hydrants, scraping away rust and old paint and applying new protective paint. This work allows the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department to depend on these hydrants to function properly when they are needed most. Benjamin’s project reflects a strong sense of responsibility, service, and commitment to keeping our community safe. I was honored to present him with a Senate citation recognizing this outstanding achievement. Congratulations, Benjamin! Measure to Alleviate Corrections Officer Shortage Passed by SenateThe Senate approved legislation targeting the staffing crisis facing the state’s correctional institutions. Senate Bill 111, supported by the Pennsylvania State Corrections Officers Association, would expand the pool of qualified candidates to help fill critical vacancies in Pennsylvania’s correctional facilities. Corrections officers across the commonwealth have faced unprecedented challenges in recent years – including mandatory overtime, increased stress and a rise in violent incidents – that have strained morale and operations. The bill now heads to the House of Representatives for consideration York Township Elementary at the CapitolThis week, students from York Township Elementary toured the State Capitol and learned more about how our state government works. It was wonderful to have them here! You can find more photos from their visit here. Bill Protecting Privacy of Lottery Winners Passes SenateLegislation that would protect the privacy of Pennsylvania Lottery winners who receive prizes of $100,000 or more was approved by the Senate. Senate Bill 73 would keep the names, addresses and other personal identifying information of these winners confidential, unless they choose to make it public. The measure allows the Pennsylvania Lottery to continue operating transparently by releasing the winner’s county and municipality of residence and the prize amount. Half of all states already provide either full or partial anonymity for major lottery winners to shield them from harassment, scams and unwanted attention after winning large sums of money. York Tech Students Visit the CapitolIt was a pleasure welcoming students from York County School of Technology to the State Capitol this week, alongside Rep. Joe D’Orsie and Rep. Wendy Fink. These students are not only developing hands-on technical skills in the classroom, they’re also gaining a firsthand look at how their state government works and how their voices can shape the future. Thank you to the teachers and staff at York Tech for encouraging civic engagement and leadership among the next generation. You can find more photos from their visit here. Watch Out for Increased Deer Activity on RoadsThe number of deer-related crashes in Pennsylvania has been on the rise since 2020, with last year’s total of 6,426 setting a five-year high, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). Autumn means increased deer activity on roads. Deer become more active at dawn and dusk, and if you see one, there are usually more. PennDOT advises motorists involved in a deer-related crash to assess the situation to determine whether they need to contact local authorities. Pennsylvanians can report a dead deer for removal from state-maintained roads by calling 1-800-FIX-ROAD or submitting feedback through the PennDOT Customer Care Center. Upcoming PennDOT Maintenance ProjectsMost weeks, PennDOT provides me with its upcoming maintenance schedule. However, there will be no work schedule until the end of November as PennDOT crews will be conducting dry runs and participating in snow academy. Once that is completed, we will resume sharing the weekly maintenance updates. For future updates, please continue to check back here on Friday afternoons or over the weekend once regular scheduling resumes. |
