It’s Time to Get Social at Franklin Street!

We have something incredible to celebrate: Franklin Street Social in Red Lion is officially open! This one-of-a-kind food hall is in a beautifully restored historic factory and offers nine restaurants, a kids’ play space, and yes, even an adult sliding board!

I had the privilege of joining Chef Ethan Greer and Jordan Ilyes for the ribbon cutting and couldn’t resist trying the sliding board myself—it’s every bit as fun as it sounds!

I was happy to assist Ethan and Jordan cut bureaucratic red tape they faced along the way in completing this project.

Opening day was a hit, with more than 2,300 people showing up to experience all Franklin Street Social has to offer. Whether you’re coming for the food, the family fun, or just to see what everyone’s talking about, there’s definitely something for everyone there!

You can find more photos of Franklin Street Social on my Facebook. Watch this highlight reel here.

PA Supreme Court Rules Counties Must Comply with State Election Law

The state Supreme Court has reiterated its previous stance and ruled that undated or misdated mail ballots should not be counted in the 2024 election. It upholds prior rulings clarifying mail and absentee ballots that fail to comply with the Pennsylvania Election Code “shall not be counted” for the purposes of the Nov. 5 election.

This is a win for voters and the rule of law. I will continue to work to boost election integrity and ensure free, fair, and secure elections.

See You at Christmastime in Loganville on Saturday!

I’m excited to welcome the holiday season with you this Saturday, Nov. 23! Join me for an open house at our district office, located at 6872 Susquehanna Trail South in Springfield Township. We’ll be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Our open house is part of Christmastime in Loganville, where local businesses and nonprofits are hosting festive events throughout the area. You can find more details about other participants here.

Stop by for light refreshments, marvel at a delightful train display for kids (and kids at heart!), and enter for a chance to win this year’s state Capitol Christmas tree ornament. I hope to see you there!

Bill Allowing Year-round Motorcycle Inspections Now Law

Legislation giving people who are trying to take safety precautions more convenient is now law after receiving unanimous Senate and House support. It allows year-round motorcycle safety inspections in Pennsylvania.

Even though motorcycles can be purchased and driven on Pennsylvania roadways throughout the year, the state Vehicle Code previously only allowed safety inspections to be performed from March to October.

The legislation eliminated the old restriction to give motorcycle operators more opportunities to complete required inspections. Motorcycle registration with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will continue to be tied to the month the vehicle is to be inspected.

Senate Passes Bill to Honor Gold Star Families

Honoring the sacrifices of our fallen service members and supporting the families they left behind is a priority. That’s why I supported a bill that will authorize the construction of a Gold Star Families Memorial Monument at the State Capitol Complex in Harrisburg.

The monument will be sponsored by the Woody Williams Foundation, which was established to honor and support Gold Star Families. It will be built to reflect five main philosophical pillars of the foundation: homeland, family, patriot, sacrifice and legacy. The monument will give Gold Star Families a permanent place to gather, remember and honor their fallen loved ones. It will also act as a reminder to the public of the ultimate sacrifice made by the country’s bravest patriots.

The bill was signed into law earlier this week. The monument will be constructed south of the Auditorium Forum Building, east of the Irvis Office Building and north of Walnut Street.

Bobblehead George Bringing History Right to You

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Bobblehead George fundraiser! Created by a dedicated York County American History teacher, Bobblehead George ensures that students everywhere, no matter their resources, can access engaging and educational experiences.

Through its video series, Lessons on the Road, classrooms across the nation are connected with incredible historical organizations, from Mount Vernon to local gems like the York County Colonial Complex.

You can learn more about this initiative on its website.

York Township Elementary School Tours Capitol

I enjoyed welcoming students from Dallastown Area School District’s York Township Elementary School to the Capitol last week! It was such a pleasure showing them around the Senate floor and sharing a glimpse into how our legislative process works.

In just a few weeks, the Capitol will be transformed with stunning holiday decorations—making it an especially magical time to visit. You can schedule your own Capitol tour here.

Celebrating Lavina Wolfe’s 100th Birthday

This week, I had the honor of celebrating Lavina Wolfe’s 100th birthday with her family and friends at the Stewartstown Area Senior Center! Her quick wit and infectious laughter have touched the hearts of everyone who knows her.

Happy 100th birthday, Lavina! You can find more photos from the celebration on my Instagram.

New Maple Map Paves the Way for a Tasty Treat

Pennsylvania maple is a true taste of fall, and it’s simpler than ever to enjoy maple syrup and related candies, popcorn, and sauces produced right here in the commonwealth.

The new Maple Map highlights local producers and businesses all across the state. Using the interactive mapping application makes it easy to find delicious snacks to help you enjoy the season.

It also provides maple syrup recipes and a list of restaurants and coffee shops with maple menu offerings.

Recognizing Two Spring Grove Coaches

I was honored to recognize Coach Brian Campbell, 2024 Girls Track & Field, and Coach Liz Zeigler, 2021 Girls Volleyball, from Spring Grove Area School District for earning PIAA Sports Coach of the Year awards!

Their dedication and leadership continue to inspire not just their athletes but our entire community. Congratulations to both coaches on this well-deserved recognition!

Newest Eagle Scout: Brady Wagner

Please join me in congratulating Brady Wagner of Troop 30 in Spring Grove for earning the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout!

Brady, the son of Tony and Tori Wagner, demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication through his Eagle Scout Community Project. He removed old picnic tables at William H. Kain Park and constructed new, covered picnic tables to enhance the park for everyone to enjoy.

Well done, Brady, and thank you for your contributions to our community!

November is Child Safety and Protection Month

Our children are our most precious resource. During Child Safety and Protection Month, we focus on the dangers kids face every day and resolve to do our part to minimize these risks and provide support.

Senate Republicans have placed a high priority on keeping kids safe, through advancing several bills during the current legislative session to improve child safety, including:

Upcoming PennDOT Maintenance Projects

Most weeks, PennDOT provides me with its upcoming maintenance schedule. While my team and I aim to keep this information up to date, please note that the page may not always reflect the latest changes. For the most accurate details, I recommend checking back on Friday afternoons or over the weekend, as we usually receive updates from PennDOT on Fridays. You can view the full list here to see if any roadwork might impact you and your family.
