New Podcast: How Golf is Driving Real Impact Across PA

Golf is more than just a game, it’s creating jobs, fueling tourism, and driving opportunity across Pennsylvania.

In this episode, I’m joined by Ken Phillips, president of the Golf Association of Philadelphia, to talk about how golf is putting our state on the national map and what it means for local communities.

Tune in on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple to listen!

License Plate Replacement Event Coming to Wrightsville

If your license plate is hard to read because it is peeling, blistering, fading, or discolored, you may qualify for a free replacement.

To make the process as simple as possible, I’m hosting a license plate replacement event on Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Wrightsville Elementary School, located at 320 Chestnut Street in Wrightsville. Local law enforcement officers will be on-site to inspect license plates and determine if they meet PennDOT’s criteria for replacement. If your plate qualifies, a new one will be mailed directly to your home.

My team will be available to assist residents with completing the necessary PennDOT forms during the event. You do not need to mail anything afterward, we’ll take care of the paperwork for you.

Personalized plates will be replaced with the same letters and numbers at no cost. If you have a specialty plate, such as a Wildlife Resource or alumni plate, you will receive the same plate unless it has been discontinued. For example, owl plates are no longer available, and otter plates are being replaced with Eastern hellbender plates. In these cases, a standard plate will be issued at no charge. If you currently have a standard plate but wish to keep the same number, you will need to apply and pay for a personalized plate. This is the only situation in which a fee applies.

All attendees must bring a valid driver’s license and current vehicle registration. If more than one person is listed on the registration, each individual must be present with their own license to complete the process and avoid delays.

Please note, the traditional blue, white, and yellow Pennsylvania plate has officially been retired and the new standard “Let Freedom Ring” plates will be provided during this event.

This event is open to all residents, and I encourage everyone with a worn or damaged plate to take advantage of this convenient opportunity.

Senate Acts to Provide Funding for Local Bridge Projects

The Senate recently approved legislation to provide state funding for local bridge projects, giving counties the flexibility needed to make essential repairs to municipal bridges.

Currently, state Motor License Fund dollars can be used to build and repair county bridges. However, spending guidance fails to address if funding can be used for municipal bridges located within a county.

As a result, municipal bridges often go without repair while bridge funding goes unused due to ambiguous guidance. Senate Bill 205 would give counties the flexibility they need to fund local bridge projects. The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Thank You for Coming to Scam Jam

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Jacobus to learn how to spot, avoid, and report scams. From fraud bingo to real-world prevention tips, this event was full of helpful info and meaningful conversations!

A big shoutout to the PA Department of Banking and Securities, York County District Attorney Tim Barker, York County Regional Police Department detectives, PA Office of Attorney General, AARP Pennsylvania, and Goodwill Fire Company #1 of Jacobus for helping make this event possible and for your continued work to protect our community!

Watch the highlight video here and find more photos on my Facebook page.

I look forward to hosting more of these events across Southern York County!

Legislation to Make PA Leader in Drone Research Approved by Senate

Legislation to position Pennsylvania as a national leader in the emerging drone industry was approved by the Senate and sent to the House of Representatives.

Senate Bill 468 permits the state Department of Transportation, with the governor’s approval, to engage in agreements with other states to facilitate the research and use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), or drones.

An interstate compact would make Pennsylvania a key player in UAS testing, training and education, helping to ensure public safety, expand aviation jobs and inspire business development across the commonwealth.

Supporting Working Families in York County

I recently had the opportunity to join Sen. Dawn Keefer for a tour of the United Way of York County to learn more about the work they’re doing to support individuals and families across our region.

One of the many ways the United Way is making a difference is through its VITA program, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, which offers free tax preparation services to low- and moderate-income households. Last year alone, this program helped return $1.8 million to the pockets of York County families. That’s money that can be used for groceries, rent, childcare, and other everyday needs.

From connecting residents to local resources to helping working households achieve financial stability, the United Way of York County continues to be a vital partner in building a stronger, more resilient community.

Honoring Eagle Scout Nicholas Torregrossa

Congratulations to Nicholas Torregrossa of Troop 24 in New Freedom on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor in Scouting!

Nicholas is the son of Stephen and Alicia Torregrossa. For his Eagle Scout community service project, he repurposed the playground at Christ Lutheran Preschool in Shrewsbury. Thanks to his leadership and hard work, local children will have a safe and enjoyable place to play and learn for years to come.

It was my honor to present Nicholas with an official congratulatory citation from the Senate of Pennsylvania in recognition of this outstanding achievement. I wish him continued success in all of his future endeavors!

Children in Hot Cars: Look Before You Lock

In 2024, 39 children died of heatstroke in vehicles – up 35% from 2023. Most of these deaths are a result of a parent or caregiver forgetting a child in a car.

  • Never leave a child in a vehicle unattended for any length of time. Rolling windows down or parking in the shade does little to change the interior temperature of the vehicle.
  • Make it a habit to check your entire vehicle – especially the back seat – before locking the doors and walking away.
  • Place a personal item like a purse or briefcase in the back seat, as another reminder to look before you lock.
  • Store car keys and fobs out of a child’s reach and teach children that a vehicle is not a play area.

More information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is available here.

Protecting Yourself on Facebook Marketplace

Transactions through social media platforms have limited consumer protections compared to traditional business dealings, and scams happen.

In a recent case, a Fayette County family was scammed with fake cash when selling a floor buffer on Facebook Marketplace. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.

There are steps you can take to protect yourself with Facebook Marketplace, such as checking the seller’s Marketplace profile to learn more about them, using online payment methods and verifying the item before paying. Check out more tips here.

Sunday Hunting Days Set for 2025

The new Sunday hunting days for 2025 have been set by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Beginning Sept. 14, and through the second Sunday in firearms deer season Dec. 7, all Sundays that fall within established hunting seasons will be included as part of those seasons and open to hunting.

Migratory game bird seasons are the lone exception. No Sundays will be added to the 2025-26 migratory game bird seasons because those seasons are set through federal frameworks and adding any Sundays at this time would result in a loss of hunting days in 2025-26. You can find more details here.

Mobile Office Hours in Springettsbury Next Thursday!

My team will be in Springettsbury Township next Thursday, Aug. 7, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. to assist residents during mobile office hours. If you need help with PennDOT issues, Property Tax/Rent Rebate applications, birth or death certificates, or any other state-related matter, we’re here to help.

Mobile office hours will be held at the York Area United Fire & Rescue Station located at 50 Commons Drive in Springettsbury.

No appointment is necessary, but you’re welcome to call 717-741-4648 or email me if you’d like to schedule a specific time.

Tuesday is National Night Out

National Night Out takes place Tuesday, Aug. 5. It’s an annual community-building campaign promoting police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations and more. Check with your local municipality or police department for an event near you for a great way to get to know your local police officers.

Upcoming PennDOT Maintenance Projects

Most weeks, PennDOT provides me with its upcoming maintenance schedule. While my team and I aim to keep this information up to date, please note that the page may not always reflect the latest changes. For the most accurate details, I recommend checking back on Friday afternoons or over the weekend, as we usually receive updates from PennDOT on Fridays. You can view the full list here to see if any roadwork might impact you and your family.
