Bill to Expand Body Camera Use for Law Enforcement Passes Senate

To boost safety and accountability, the Senate passed legislation to expand the use of body-worn cameras to additional law enforcement personnel. The measure was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Senate Bill 520 authorizes the use of body cameras by special agents with the Office of Attorney General, rangers with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and officers and deputies with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Fish and Boat Commission.

The bill also modernizes the legal framework for body camera usage to ensure consistency in how footage is recorded and managed, regardless of the department using it.

Coming Soon: Podcast Talking Golf with GAP President

I recently sat down with Ken Phillips, President of the Golf Association of Philidelphia, to talk all things golf, from local courses to statewide events and why the game continues to bring people together across Pennsylvania.

Whether you’re an avid golfer or just curious about the sport’s growing reach, this episode has something for everyone. Subscribe on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple to be the first to know when the episode comes out!

Larry Richardson Recognized for 31 Years of Leadership

It was a pleasure to present Larry Richardson with an official Senate of Pennsylvania citation in recognition of his extraordinary leadership and lifelong dedication to our community.

Larry has served as the President and CEO of the YMCA of the Roses here in York County for more than three decades. Over those 31 years, he has championed countless initiatives to support children, families, and individuals of all ages and improving the health, wellbeing, and future of York County in immeasurable ways.

His steady leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to service have left a lasting legacy that will benefit generations to come. On behalf of a grateful community, we thank Larry for his tireless efforts and the profound impact he has made.

Congratulations, Larry!

Visit to the York County Food Bank

This week I joined State Representatives Kate Klunk, Wendy Fink, Joe D’Orsie, and Carol Hill-Evans for a visit to the York County Food Bank to see firsthand how they are working to meet the needs of families across our community.

From distributing fresh produce to organizing essential pantry items, the Food Bank’s team and volunteers are making a real difference in the fight against hunger. We are grateful to the York County Food Bank for their continued commitment to serving our neighbors with compassion, dignity, and purpose.

A special shoutout to Brendan from the York County Economic Alliance for being my assembly line partner as we packed boxes for distribution! Find more photos from our tour on my Facebook.

Goodwill Opens First-Ever Donation-Only Center

Congratulations to Goodwill Keystone Area on the grand opening of their first-ever, donation-only center right here in Springettsbury Township!

Located at 2915 Whiteford Road, this new drop-off location is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., making it easier than ever for residents to support Goodwill’s mission of creating sustainable, thriving communities.

Every donation, from clothing and shoes to electronics and household items, helps reduce landfill waste and provides critical funding for Goodwill programs that support job training, employment services, and more.

We’re proud to celebrate this milestone in York County and encourage everyone to take part in giving back.

New Law Protects Users of Virtual Currency

We passed a new law to protect the increasing number of Pennsylvanians using virtual currency, such as Bitcoin.

Act 7 of 2025 requires transmission of virtual currency to be treated similar to money transmission under state law. As more citizens use virtual currencies, the criminal element has increasingly focused on using this platform to evade prosecution.

Pennsylvania will join 26 other states regulating virtual currency under their money transmitter acts so individuals can engage with virtual currencies at their own discretion with consumer safeguards in place.

Flooded Roads: Turn Around, Don’t Drown

Over the past few weeks, our area has experienced several rounds of heavy rain and dangerous flash flooding. These sudden downpours can turn familiar roads into hazardous waterways in a matter of minutes.

It’s important to remember that more than half of flood-related drownings happen when a vehicle is driven into flood waters. Just 12 inches of fast-moving water can carry away most cars and it’s often impossible to gauge the depth or condition of a flooded road.

Please, don’t take the risk. Never drive around barricades or attempt to walk, swim, or drive through flood waters. Your safety and the safety of first responders depends on it. Turn around, don’t drown.

World Day Against Trafficking

Every year on July 30, we pause to recognize World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. A global call to action to raise awareness, support survivors, and strengthen efforts to stop human trafficking.

As someone who has continued to champion anti-trafficking efforts, I’ve authored and supported bipartisan legislation to protect victims and hold traffickers accountable. I’ll continue working to ensure Pennsylvania leads the way in ending human trafficking and supporting every survivor on their path to healing.

Sparrow Place is hosting a World Day Against Trafficking Prayer Event July 30 at 8 a.m. at the York PSP Barricks, 101 N. Main Street in Loganville. I encourage all to stop by and pick up resources on human trafficking.

Upcoming PennDOT Maintenance Projects

Most weeks, PennDOT provides me with its upcoming maintenance schedule. While my team and I aim to keep this information up to date, please note that the page may not always reflect the latest changes. For the most accurate details, I recommend checking back on Friday afternoons or over the weekend, as we usually receive updates from PennDOT on Fridays. You can view the full list here to see if any roadwork might impact you and your family.
