Remembering the Fallen on Memorial Day

This Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason we live in freedom today.

To the families who carry the weight of that loss, please know it was not in vain. We remember their names, we honor their courage, and we are forever grateful for their selfless service.

May we all strive to live an American life worthy of their sacrifice, grounded in gratitude, purpose, and a commitment to the values they fought to protect.

This weekend, I will be joining East Prospect Borough for its Memorial Day parade on Sunday at 3:30 p.m., then joining our neighbors in Hanover Borough on Monday at 8:30 a.m., and then Wrightsville Borough at 1 p.m. to honor those we lost defending our nation.

Splash Supply Company’s Grand Re-Opening

It was a pleasure to join the ribbon-cutting ceremony at Splash Supply Company’s new location in York Township!

After facing both a devastating fire and a relocation caused by the I-83 widening project, this local business has turned adversity into something remarkable. The new space at 1941 Powder Mill Road features a four-acre garden filled with eco-friendly ponds, aquatic plants, and beautiful landscaping features.

It was great to see this resilient, home-grown business continue to thrive and invest in York County. You can find more photos from the event here.

Celebrating Red Lion FFA

I had the honor of attending Red Lion High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) Annual Awards Ceremony to recognize the achievements of these student leaders. From hands-on learning to service projects, it’s clear that the future of York County agriculture is in good hands.

Congratulations to the newly installed officers, and a special shoutout to Pennsylvania FFA Sentinel Kennady Laird as she wraps up a busy year of service and leadership across the Commonwealth. The blue jacket may come off, but the values last forever.

Best wishes to all of these young leaders! You can find more photos on my Instagram.

New Community-Use Space in Hellam Township

Joined by local leaders, residents, and partners, I attended the grand opening of Hellam Township’s new community-use space!

This project is a testament to what can be accomplished when communities work together. Thanks to the collaboration between Hellam Township, Hallam Borough, and Wrightsville Borough, residents now have a beautiful, functional space to gather, host events, and connect with neighbors.

The space will be available to rent June 2. For rental details, contact Hellam Township. You can find more photos from the event on my Facebook.

Grants Available for Firefighting Equipment and Training

The Office of the State Fire Commissioner has two grant programs that are accepting applications through May 29. Both programs distribute grants ranging from $25,000 to $100,000. Applications should be submitted online.

The Emergency Training Center Capital Grant Program awards funds that can be used to establish or modernize facilities, acquire or renovate structures and repair or purchase equipment. Emergency service training centers, community colleges, county-owned facilities, municipal or fire department-owned facilities and nonprofit, countywide associations are eligible.

The Municipal Fire Department Capital Grant Program awards money to municipal fire departments to improve structures and firefighting equipment in the commonwealth.

Honoring Our EMS Heroes

This week is National EMS Week, a time to recognize the emergency medical service professionals who respond in our moments of greatest need.

From providing life-saving care at accident scenes to offering critical support during medical emergencies, our EMS personnel serve with skill, compassion, and unwavering commitment. We are deeply grateful for their service to our communities each and every day.

Senate Votes to Improve Communication About School Safety Issues

To empower parents and increase transparency, the Senate passed legislation to improve reporting requirements about potentially dangerous situations at schools.

Senate Bill 246 would require parental and employee notification when there is a weapon on any school property that violates its weapons policy, as well as when there are cases of harassment and bullying. It would apply to public, non-public and private schools. Current law does not require school districts to inform parents about incidents when a weapon is brought onto school grounds or to related activities.

The bill is part of a larger Senate Republican initiative to empower families and foster safe communities. It moves to the House of Representatives for consideration.

PA Offers Free Motorcycle Training

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, a great time to sign up for a motorcycle safety course whether you’re a novice or experienced rider. Classes are free for Pennsylvanians who have a motorcycle learner’s permit or motorcycle license.

Successful completion of a basic or intermediate course offered by the state waives the requirement to take a skills test at a PennDOT driver license center and automatically earns the permit holder their motorcycle license.

Class schedules are coordinated by third-party training providers at locations across the commonwealth and posted online at least four weeks before the class begins. Learn more about Pennsylvania’s Motorcycle Safety Program.

Rite Aid Customers Can Redeem Gift Cards Until June 6

As a result of a bankruptcy announcement, Rite Aid will accept gift cards, coupons and other Rite Aid rewards through June 6. Returns and exchanges will not be accepted after June 4.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday encourages any consumers who experience issues redeeming their Rite Aid points, coupons or unused gift cards or with returning merchandise to Rite Aid to submit an online complaint to the Bureau of Consumer Protection. They may also contact the Consumer Protection Hotline at 1-800-441-2555. Read more.

Holiday Office Hours

In observance of Memorial Day, our office will close at noon on Friday, May 23, and reopen on Tuesday, May 27. As always, our office is open 24/7 at senatorkristin.com.

Upcoming PennDOT Maintenance Projects

Most weeks, PennDOT provides me with its upcoming maintenance schedule. While my team and I aim to keep this information up to date, please note that the page may not always reflect the latest changes. For the most accurate details, I recommend checking back on Friday afternoons or over the weekend, as we usually receive updates from PennDOT on Fridays. You can view the full list here to see if any roadwork might impact you and your family.
