Join for some family friendly fun and test your Pennsylvania facts at Laurel Fire Company! Registration closes Monday, April 21, so don’t miss your chance to join the fun.

Grab your team of six and get ready to test your knowledge with questions like:

  1. What is Pennsylvania’s most valuable mineral?
  2. What is our state’s common nickname?

You can find the answers here.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams with no taxpayer dollars used. Teams can include up to six people, but only one person per team should register. Space is limited, so don’t wait! Laurel Fire Company will also have food available for purchase.

Learn more and register your team here.

Keeping PA in the Competition: Roundtable at UTZ

This week, I had the pleasure of hosting a roundtable discussion of the Pennsylvania Competitiveness Caucus in Hanover.

With support from Utz Brands, the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce, and business leaders from across the region, we had a productive conversation about how to make Pennsylvania more competitive.

From workforce development and infrastructure to tax and regulatory policy, we focused on the real issues that impact job creation and economic growth in our communities.

It was great to welcome my caucus co-chairs and colleagues from across the Commonwealth to York County to see firsthand what we’re doing to move Pennsylvania forward.

Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their ideas. I look forward to continuing these conversations and working together to build a stronger future for all Pennsylvanians. You can find more photos from the day here.

Honoring Pennsylvania’s Women Veterans: Register by May 9

Pennsylvania women who have served in the armed forces are invited to take part in a special event at the state Capitol to recognize their dedication and sacrifice.

The Women Veterans Day ceremony will be held at noon on Tuesday, June 10 in Harrisburg. This event honors the courage of women from all branches of the military, from World War II to today, and highlights their critical role in defending our nation.

The first Women Veterans Day exhibit at the Capitol was held in 2023, following the passage of a law officially recognizing June 12 each year as Women Veterans Day in Pennsylvania.

Women Veterans who wish to participate are encouraged to register by May 9. New participants are invited to share their stories of service by completing the official submission form. Those who were featured in last year’s display and would like to participate again may simply update their previous entry.

A virtual display will also be available beginning June 9 here, offering another way for Pennsylvanians to honor and learn from the stories of our women Veterans.

To all the women who have worn the uniform, thank you. We hope you will join us for this meaningful tribute.

Come Get Your License Plate Replaced

I am teaming up with Reps. Joe D’Orsie and Wendy Fink to host a Free License Plate Replacement event.

When: Thursday, May 1, from 5-7 p.m.
Where: York Area United Fire and Rescue, 50 Commons Drive, York, PA 17402

If your license plate is hard to read because it is peeling, blistering, fading, or discolored, you may qualify for a free replacement. Local officers will be on site to inspect plates and check car seats to make sure they are properly installed.

My team, along with the offices of Rep. D’Orsie and Rep. Fink, will be available to help you complete the necessary PennDOT forms. If your plate qualifies, a new one will be mailed directly to your home.

Additional Information:

  • If you already have a personalized plate, you will receive a replacement with the same letters and numbers for free. We will make sure to note this on the form and take the required photo for PennDOT.
  • If your vehicle has a specialty plate, such as a Wildlife Resource or alumni plate, you will receive the same type of plate for free. Please note that if your plate type is no longer available, you will receive a standard plate at no cost. For example, owl plates are no longer available, and otter plates are being replaced with Eastern hellbender plates.
  • If you have a standard plate but want to keep the same number, you will need to apply and pay for a personalized plate. This is the only scenario where a fee applies.

What to Bring:
You must bring your valid driver’s license and vehicle registration. If the registration includes more than one name, all listed individuals must be present with their driver’s licenses.

All residents are encouraged to participate. We hope to see you there.

Thanks for Stopping in at Coffee and Conversation

Thank you to everyone who stopped by Village Coffee & Cream for last week’s Coffee and Conversation. I truly appreciated the thoughtful conversations, helpful feedback, and chance to catch up with so many friendly faces from our community!

Your input helps guide the work I do on your behalf in Harrisburg and at home. And of course, it’s always a bonus when coffee and ice cream are involved. I am looking forward to the next one.

ICYMI: Saving Women’s Sports Podcast

In the latest episode of Kristin’s Corner, I sat down with former NCAA swimmer Paula Scanlan, who shared her firsthand experience competing against a biological male and why she’s now speaking out.

We talked about protecting opportunities for female athletes, the importance of Senate Bill 9, and what’s at stake for the next generation.

It’s a conversation you won’t want to miss. Listen now on Spotify, Apple, and YouTube.

REAL ID to Replace Driver’s License as Federally Acceptable ID on May 7

Beginning May 7, Pennsylvanians who wish to board flights, visit military bases and enter certain federal facilities will be required to present a form of federally accepted identification. Options include a passport, military ID or a REAL ID.

You do not need to wait until your driver license renews to get a REAL ID. To get one, you must provide documents proving your identity, lawful status, Social Security number and Pennsylvania residency. Review the list of acceptable documents. All documents must be original versions or certified copies (if applicable).

While any of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) driver license centers can verify these documents for customers who want a REAL ID, only certain locations can provide your REAL ID the same day. Otherwise, expect to receive your REAL ID within 15 business days after successful document verification.

To make it more convenient for Pennsylvanians to get a REAL ID, PennDOT is offering dedicated time at some driver license centers on April 28 and May 5. Both REAL ID Days are on Mondays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Free Cleanup Supplies for PA Communities

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is working to improve the state’s communities by cleaning up litter. Now through May 31 while supplies last, free work gloves, safety vests and trash bags are available to groups who register their cleanup event.

Donated landfill space is offered for trash collected during cleanups held in April. Tires cannot be accepted, and groups should plan for proper disposal of electronics that are found. Read more about how to organize a cleanup event. Please email or call Michelle Dunn with Pick Up Pennsylvania at 724-836-4121, extension 113, with any questions.

In 2024, more than 77,000 volunteers picked up more than 3.2 million tons of litter and trash. Another 4.5 million pounds of materials were recycled and more than 14,000 trees, flowers and other greens were planted.

Wishing You a Joyful and Blessed Easter Weekend

In observance of Good Friday, our Senate offices are closed, Friday, April 18. We will reopen on Monday, April 21, at 9 a.m.

As Easter approaches, we reflect on the message of joy, hope, and redemption. Warmest wishes to all families who celebrate this holy holiday and rejoice in the promise of eternal life.

Upcoming PennDOT Maintenance Projects

Most weeks, PennDOT provides me with its upcoming maintenance schedule. While my team and I aim to keep this information up to date, please note that the page may not always reflect the latest changes. For the most accurate details, I recommend checking back on Friday afternoons or over the weekend, as we usually receive updates from PennDOT on Fridays. You can view the full list here to see if any roadwork might impact you and your family.
