From Spring Grove to the Nation: Honoring Vietnam VeteransWhat began in Spring Grove is now recognized across the country every March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. The effort was championed by Spring Grove’s Sgt. Harold Redding, whose dedication helped ensure those who served during the Vietnam War receive the recognition they deserve each year. Former U.S. Senator Pat Toomey sponsored the legislation, which was signed into law by President Donald J. Trump in 2017. Sgt. Redding’s commitment to supporting and uplifting fellow Veterans continues to make an impact not just on March 29, but every day. Welcome home. If you or someone you know is a Veteran and may be interested in Veteran specific updates, you can subscribe to our Veterans E-news here. Senate Approves Bill Aiding Pennsylvanians with Invisible Disabilities During Police InteractionsThe Senate approved a voluntary ID designation for Pennsylvanians with invisible disabilities, such as deafness and autism, to help ensure clearer, safer interactions with law enforcement. Under Senate Bill 802, individuals with invisible disabilities could apply for the designation free of charge, with a doctor’s sign-off, through a process similar to obtaining a handicap parking placard. The designation would appear as a symbol on a driver’s license or state-issued ID card, alerting officers of potential communication difficulties during traffic stops or other interactions. At least 32 other states have implemented similar measures. Senate Bill 802 was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Celebrating Patriot Program Graduates at South Eastern Intermediate SchoolCongratulations to this year’s Patriot Program graduates at South Eastern School District’s Intermediate School! Last week, students were recognized for completing a program that strengthens their understanding of American history while fostering pride in our country and a commitment to responsible citizenship. Earlier today, they visited the state Capitol as part of the program. You can view photos from their visit on my Instagram. It is always encouraging to see young students so engaged in learning about our nation’s history and the values that shape it. Programs like this play an important role in preparing the next generation to be informed, thoughtful members of their communities. A great tradition that continues to make a meaningful impact each year. Well done to all of the students who participated! First Batch of 2026 Money Match Unclaimed Property Checks Being MailedMore than 100,000 checks, totaling nearly $23 million, are being mailed to Pennsylvania residents under the state Treasury’s 2026 Money Match program for unclaimed property. Created by the General Assembly in 2024, Pennsylvania Money Match allows Treasury to return unclaimed property valued up to $500 belonging to a single owner automatically without the need to search or file a claim. Unclaimed property can include dormant bank accounts, abandoned stocks, uncashed checks and more. Treasurer Stacy Garrity urges Pennsylvanians to regularly search online for unclaimed property, since some claims may not qualify to be part of Money Match. Homeowners Speak Out on Property Taxes at Town HallProperty taxes remain one of the top concerns I hear from citizens, and last weekend’s strong turnout at our Property Tax Town Hall made that clear. Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend and be part of the conversation. These discussions are important, and your input helps ensure we address the issues that matter most to our communities. I also want to thank Sen. Dawn Keefer and Rep. Wendy Fink for their leadership on this issue and for advancing a proposal focused on delivering meaningful property tax relief. These conversations are not always easy, but they are necessary. We will continue working to move solutions forward and bring relief to taxpayers. Let PennDOT Know Your Opinion of Winter Road ServicesMotorists have until April 14 to provide feedback on Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) services this winter through its latest anonymous online survey. The 17-question survey asks respondents about their timeline expectations for safe and passable roadways, how they rank snow-removal priorities and how they rate snow removal and other PennDOT winter services. Respondents are also asked how they receive PennDOT roadway information, and whether or how they use the state’s 511PA traveler information services. Visiting Cub Scout Pack 50I had a great time joining Cub Scout Pack 50 this week to talk about how our government works and why voting matters. The scouts asked thoughtful questions and were genuinely engaged in learning how they can play a role in their communities even at a young age. Conversations like these are always a reminder that civic responsibility starts early, and it’s encouraging to see such strong interest in how our system works. Programs like this not only support advancement within scouting, but also help build a foundation for informed, active citizenship. These young leaders are already on the right track. Thank you to Pack 50 for the invitation! I always appreciate the opportunity to come back and connect with such a great group of scouts. Connecting with York County Farmers at PA Farm Bureau Legislative LuncheonIt was great to see so many familiar faces from York County at this week’s Pennsylvania Farm Bureau Legislative Luncheon. Opportunities like this are always valuable by bringing together farmers from across the commonwealth to share what they’re seeing on the ground and discuss the issues impacting agriculture. Hearing directly from those who keep our communities fed and our economy moving is critical to shaping thoughtful, effective policy. I always appreciate the chance to sit down with our local farmers, have meaningful conversations, and carry those perspectives back to Harrisburg. Thank you to the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau for hosting this important event and for continuing to be a strong voice for agriculture. PA Bald Eagle Cam Livestreams America’s Living SymbolsThe Pennsylvania Game Commission livestream of a bald eagle nest in Codorus State Park in York County offers viewers an incredible look at a pair of eagles and their three eggs. The nest has never seen three eggs in one season since the webcam first started in January 2015. The eggs were laid in early March and typically take around 35 days to hatch, so viewers could see eaglets emerging in the coming days. Forty years ago, Pennsylvania had only three bald eagle nests left in the entire state before the birds were brought back. We’re now home to more than 300 nests. The livestream is run through a Game Commission partnership with Comcast Business, HDOnTap and local property owners. Happy Easter and Happy PassoverI hope you and your loved ones have a Happy Easter full of joy and hope. Last evening, our Jewish neighbors celebrated the beginning of Passover. I wish our neighbors of the Jewish faith a Happy Passover. Please be advised our offices will be closed tomorrow (Friday, April 3) in observance of Good Friday. We will open Monday, April 6, at 9 a.m. Upcoming PennDOT Maintenance ProjectsMost weeks, PennDOT provides me with its upcoming maintenance schedule. While my team and I aim to keep this information up to date, please note that the page may not always reflect the latest changes. For the most accurate details, I recommend checking back on Friday afternoons or over the weekend, as we usually receive updates from PennDOT on Fridays. You can view the full list here to see if any roadwork might impact you and your family.
