News conference will highlight Phillips-Hill’s plan to allow gyms and fitness clubs to reopen safely

HARRISBURG – Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York) will join an event hosted by Senator Doug Mastriano (R-33) and Representative Rob Kauffman (R-89) on Saturday in Chambersburg to highlight her upcoming legislation to safely allow gyms and fitness clubs to reopen statewide.

The event will be hosted at Alpha Fitness, a Chambersburg fitness facility whose owner was recently cited for reopening, despite the fact that it was done so safely with strict health guidelines in place.

Phillips-Hill announced this week that she would introduce a bill that would allow gyms and fitness clubs like Alpha Fitness to reopen throughout the state if they follow the recommendations of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and the guidelines established by the Wolf Administration for safe reopening.

“Both the Governor and the Secretary of Health have acknowledged the importance of safeguarding the physical and mental health of all Pennsylvanians, and that is exactly what gyms and fitness facilities provide for many state residents,” Phillips-Hill said. “These facilities will play a key role in boosting the health of our communities as soon as the governor’s closure orders are lifted, and like many other businesses that remain shuttered throughout the state, we know they can open safely right now.”

Alpha Fitness is located at 100 Sunset Boulevard West in Chambersburg, and the event will begin at 11 a.m. Local media are invited to attend, and coverage is welcomed and appreciated.
