HARRISBURG – The Senate gave its unanimous approval to a bill authored by Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York) that would name the portion of State Route 2087 over the East Branch Codorus Creek as the Sgt. Christopher M. Wrinkle and Tosca Memorial Bridge.
Phillips-Hill, who authored Senate Bill 441, said it’s a fitting tribute to a local Marine who lost his life in Afghanistan in 2011.
“We are blessed to have many brave servicemen and women answer their country’s call right here in York County,” she said. “The rare display of both loyalty and courage shown by Sgt. Wrinkle is something seldom seen in anyone, but something that those who knew Chris would come to expect. It’s who he was and that’s because of his upbringing right here in our own backyard. This dedication would ensure that his legacy and uncommon bravery is not soon forgotten.”
Sgt. Wrinkle was a 2001 Dallastown High School graduate. Following graduation, he served as a Special Operations Multi-Purpose K9 Handler for the 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion, Marine Special Operations Company G and Marine Special Operations Team 8221 in Herat Province in Afghanistan. He was deployed to Afghanistan on July 1, 2011, and passed away while trying to rescue his service dog, Tosca, from a barracks fire later that month on July 31.
Senate Bill 441 moves to the House of Representatives for its consideration.
